  • Cherry Mobile G2 First Impressions

    Ronnie Bulaong
    22 Dec 2014 | 2:42 am
Cherry Mobile has recently announced the successor of the CM G1 Watch Phone and we thought of sharing our initial thoughts about it while we’re still prepping for the full review. As far as design goes, the new Cherry Mobile G2 looks nothing like its predecessor. Gone are the sliding form factor with physical (and tiny if we may add) keyboard underneath the actual watch. Instead we’re left with a respectable looking timepiece with a smooth rubberized finish and a 1.44-inch touchscreen display on the front. The latter is neighbored by three multi-purpose buttons that can be used to control…

Smartwatches have been on the rise in the recent months, and O+ wouldn’t want to miss on its current popularity as it banks on the a low-cost wearable called Time as a local offering. The package is very reminiscent of time pieces we usually buy. The contents are also minimal, as it only has the smartwatch wrapped in a cushion, a microUSB cord which has a longer prong than the usual we see on smartphones, a manual, and serial stickers. Upon a closer look at the O+ Time, the device is lightweight, and its colors may give an impression that it looks like a fancy sports or fitness device when…

The Happy Mobile D-Lite looks like a stunner for its price, but is this a good smartphone overall? Read on and find out. Design and Construction Starting off with the design, you can see that the D Lite packs impressive and solid build quality. It’s mostly plastic everywhere, but it’s matte and two-toned. In our case, it is colored blue. The back also features a really unique design with a pattern similar to that of a Nexus 4 without the glass. The great…

Out of the box, O+ included their complimentary Sennheiser stereo headset, and usual smartphone kit. Plus, there’s a smart flip-cover case that closely resembles those of Samsung’s. The device initially feels solid on hand but the fact that it has a gigantic 6.5” display and generous bezel, it could be tiresome to hold it with one hand. Due to the size, the power button is located on the right side while the…

We had the chance to play around with the Cherry Mobile Selfie which, as the name suggests, is a selfie-centered smartphone that has a fresh and sexy new look. Let’s have a quick look at it and see how well it takes selfies compared to a different phone in this hands-on. The Selfie carries an unconventional look and takes a break from the usual all-plastic build commonly utilized by the local company. What’s initially noticeable is its metal strip that goes around the device – almost. The metal frame takes a break at the bottom where the plastic material from the back cover extends…

Indulgence by Irene's new cheesecake baby...I've featured every cheesecake flavor made by Irene, a very talented home baker who's quickly making a name for herself in Manila's dessert scene. Indeed, Indulgence by Irene has come a long way from baking these goods for friends and for personal consumption, to making them available for ordering and in bazaars so that more people can get a taste of why it is hailed as one of Manila's best cheesecakes.Among her four available variants---Queso de Bola, Chocnut, Tablea, and Ube---I was enamored with the QDB and Ube, both rich, utterly creamy, and…

Eating through the archipelago, one month at a time, one bite at a time. The hard thing about being a country made up of thousands of islands is that you can't just go to far-off provinces or cities on a whim. You'd either have to travel by plane or by boat, thereby making it harder for you to travel as often as you'd want to. Among other things, it's the delicious cuisine from the different regions that you'd most likely miss out on.Enter Filipino food festivals such as what Midas Café is currently hosting. From August to November 2014, Midas Café is offering a feast of culinary treasures…

This article is a guest post from regular contributor Motzie Dapul. It’s no real surprise to find some of the worst examples of allegedly “human” behavior in the comments sections of Filipino news articles. It seems as though we’ve accepted the reality of bad-grammar internet criminals who are the ultimate examples of internet trolls, people who disregard humane and decent behavior and call it a joke. But as with all things, there will always be a division of opinions, arguments on the internet, dissent among the ranks of commenters everywhere. Keeping this in mind, I delved…

This is a guest article from regular contributor M. Emmanuel Canlas. I’ve gotten my legs waxed before. So, I pretty much know how the waxing session will go. But, as it was my first time getting a Boyzilian wax (otherwise known as a “Male Brazilian” or a “Brozilian” wax), it was totally nerve-wracking. It felt like I was getting circumcised again. At the back of my head, I asked myself, “Why did I say yes to this again?” Oh yeah, a dare — great. The reception area of The Body Spa & Waxing Lounge. The ladies of The Body Spa and Waxing Lounge…

Here’s a list of things and events we’re currently going ga-ga over. Photo via Charliekins and genasiopao (Instagram). First, homemade cookies! An absolute steal at Php250 a bag, these cookies from Charliekins (called chewies) are the best things ever. Each bag contains about 20 mini cookies (about an inch and a half in diameter) chock full of chocolate, with that chewy bite and texture Mrs. Fields was once famous for until they stopped caring. We got the chocolate chip, which has that salty-sweet taste is to die for. Charles de Jesus, the proprietor, doesn’t have a…
